Japan\\\'s floating train
Thursday, 11 December 2014
A fascinating last page report of a magnetic levitation train in Japan travelling at 311 miles per hour; was published in a local English daily recently. It is faster than many local and regional passenger aircrafts.
My first ride in the 'Hikari Bullet Train', between Tokyo and Kobe was way back in 1965. It covered the distance in just over two hours which is a five hour journey in express trains. If the train is five minutes late, cash difference between the cost of 'Hikari' tickets and that of normal express trains is refunded.
Every ticket has the coach and seat numbers on it, and the coach numbers were marked on the platform. Passengers will find the particular coach door right opposite the coach number marked. The 'Hikary' trains are driver-less and the driver is just physically present so that the passengers feel psychologically safe.
Next year these trains will run commercially.
