Javed Karim takes over as LGED chief engineer
Wednesday, 5 November 2025
Javed Karim has officially taken over as chief engineer (Routine Duties) of the Local Government Engineering Department (LGED).
Mr Karim took charge on Monday following the issuance of government notification by the Development-1 Branch of the Local Government Division under the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Co-operatives (LGRD), says a press release.
He succeeds recently-retired Chief Engineer Md. Anwar Hossain, whose tenure ended on October 26. With Hossain's departure, LGED remained without a head for ten consecutive working days until the ministry's notification.
Based on seniority, LGED's Additional Chief Engineer (Grade-3), Javed Karim, was entrusted with the position of Chief Engineer.
Raised in an engineering family, Karim has earned a solid reputation among colleagues as a skilled officer with extensive administrative and technical experience. His leadership and supervision in several key LGED projects have been widely praised.
Several senior officials highlighted Karim's strong relationships with development partners, including the World Bank. Given that a significant portion of LGED's projects are externally funded, these connections are expected to positively impact ongoing progress of the projects.
