Javed-led panel boycotts CCCI election
Wednesday, 8 December 2010
Chattagram Byabshayee Parishad panel led by former CCCI president Saifuzzaman Chowdhury Javed Tuesday boycotted the biennial poll of Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI), alleging vote casting by proxy and nominee voters in clear violation of the High Court (HC) order, reports UNB.
A division bench of the HC Monday issued a rule nishi and passed an ad-interim order of stay with a direction upon the CCCI Election Board chairman and respondents not to allow any proxy or nominee vote by any member of the chamber.
Mr Javed alleged that the election commission did not follow the HC directives and allowed proxy and nominee votes.
"We've decided to boycott the election as we found clear violation of the HC order in casting of votes in the (CCCI) elections," he said.
They will seek legal remedy against the violation of the HC order, he added.
The Javed-led panel announced boycotting the election at about 11am Tuesday.
The vote casting started at 8:00am and will continue up to 4:00pm.
