JAYPURHAT, Dec 15: Jaypurhat farmers are cultivating huge winter vegetables this year and the city and rural markets are filled with those.
Farmers have cultivated varieties of vegetables such as bottle gourd, cauliflower, radish, brinjal, country-bean, cabbage, green chilly etc.
According to the source of District Agriculture Extension (DAE), five thousand hectares of land have been brought under winter vegetables cultivation this year, while production target has been achieving rapidly.
Although bumper production, vegetables prices are high, which is ironically very low at the farmers' end.
The middlemen are getting the major share of profit and consumers are being deprived of meeting the requirement of sufficient vegetables for health. Farmers of this district urged government to take a necessary step for smooth marketing of their produces.
