The Branch Managers' Conference-2010 of Janata Bank's Dhaka divisional office (North & South) was held at BIAM auditorium in the city Sunday.
Janata Bank (JB) Chairman Abul Barkat presided over the conference as the chief guest while the CEO & MD of the bank S.M. Aminur Rahman was present as the special guest.
Dr. Barkat said: "We wish to brand Janata Bank by providing service to our clients and for this we need to change the attitude of service provider to consumer". He was talking about the bank's core challenge of better customer service in becoming a leading bank of South-Asian region.
Referring to Janata Bank's current race of being the country's best bank with Digital Bangladesh concept, Dr. Barkat said: "Digital Bangladesh is not merely about computers and cell phones. It's rather an approach to address problems and solve them instantly". He cited JB's recent CSR activities as examples.
Answering a question on new pay scale for SCBs, Dr. Barkat said, "new pay scale approval is under process and it needs vetting by the finance ministry".
S.M. Aminur Rahman emphasised branch managers' participation in achieving the bank's target. "We got several awards in recent years which indicated our improvement. But we need to work in several areas to be the best bank", he said.
"Remittance holds a crucial position in the overall performance of the bank and Islami Bank Bangladesh Ltd. alone collects more remittance than four state-owned commercial banks. This is because of their efficient customer service where JB is failing to compete", the CEO explained. He asked for prioritising NRB customers over others.
