JCD announces five-day protest programme at RU

RAJHSHAHI UNIVERSITY, Mar 15: Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD), a student wing of opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), Rajshahi University (RU) unit Monday here announced a 5-day demonstration programme in support of their seven-point demand on the university campus. They announced to observe human chain on March 20, silent procession on March 27, protest procession on March 30, sit strike on April 5 and symbolic strike on April 11. The leaders and activists of JCD announced their programme in a press conference. Their seven-point demand includes free medical treatment of their activist Asaduzzaman Olin who was beaten by Chaatra League cadres, arrest of the culprits who took part in attack of Olin, ensure the practicing of democracy on campus ensure the security of all the members of the university, to create free environment for the journalists, ensure congenial atmosphere for the students in each residential dormitories and to resolve dining problem at the halls. Heritage body for cultural varsity Another report adds: Leaders and activists of Barendra Parishad (BP), an organistaion for saving heritage, research and publication demanded establishment of a full culture based university in the N-region especially in Rajshahi, Monday. They also proposed a name for the univarsity as Bangladesh University of Fine Arts. They organised a views exchange meeting with the people of different professions in Rajshahi. In the meeting, cultural worker and Rabindra researcher Dr. Hasan Raja presented the key speech. Among others, language heroes Advocate Golam Arif Tipu, Sayeed Uddin Ahmed, educationist Prof. Ruhul Amin Pramanik, Principal Shafiqur Rahman Badshah, politician Jahan Panna and journalist Mustafizur Rahman Khan delivered speeches.
