Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) has called a daylong hartal in Rajshahi city for Monday to press home its five-point demand, including immediate arrest of the ‘real’ killers of Rajshahi University (RU) teacher AKM Shafiul Islam. City and RU units of JCD jointly announced the shutdown programme from a rally held at Bhubanmor Park in the city on Friday the afternoon. RU sociology teacher Prof Shafiul Islam was stabbed by some unknown assailants on his way back home at Chouddapai near the RU campus on November 15. He succumbed to his injures at the Intensive Care Unit of Rajshahi Medical College Hospital half an hour later. RU Registrar Eltajul Haq filed a case with Motihar Police Station after the murder. Eleven people, including Arif, Sagar and Jinnat Ali, were arrested by police on Nov 17 while Rab members arrested six people, including a local Jubo Dal leader, on Nov 23 in connection with the gruesome murder, according to UNB.
