Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) postponed its today's (Sunday) prescheduled strike on the Dhaka University (DU) campus after the authorities assured it of peaceful coexistence of all students at the halls Saturday.
The JCD leaders took the decision to defer the strike after holding a meeting in this connection with DU Vice-Chancellor AAMS Arefin Siddique and Proctor Saiful Islam khan Saturday morning.
Meanwhile, three JCD leaders and activists were also injured in an attack by several unruly activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League on the campus Saturday. The injured were admitted to DU medical centre.
JCD staged demonstration on the campus at noon protesting the attack on its leaders and activists demanding punishment of the attackers.
When asked, the DU Proctor said the members of the proctorial body would be present at every hall gate to help the legal students, earlier staying outside the campus, to get into the halls from 3 pm to 5 pm today.
It is mentionable that BCL drove all the JCD and Shibir leaders and activists out of the halls forcibly soon after the Awami League-led grand alliance came to power.
