The Jahangirnagar University (JU) unit of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) has launched a "Live Bus Tracking System" aimed at making transportation more convenient, secure and time-efficient for students.
The initiative was formally inaugurated on Thursday (May 7) by Vice-Chancellor Professor Mohammad Kamrul Ahsan near Murad Chattar on the university campus.
According to sources, the programme has initially been introduced in two buses on a pilot basis, with plans to gradually expand the system across the entire transport network.
Under the system, students will be able to track the real-time location of buses through their mobile phones. The system will also provide estimated arrival updates at designated stops alongside delay notifications.
Speaking at the inaugural ceremony, JU JCD Convener Jahir Uddin Mohammad Babor said the initiative had been undertaken to reduce transport-related inconveniences faced by students.
"As part of the pilot phase, the system has been installed in two buses. We plan to extend the facility to all university buses gradually. Students will be able to access real-time location updates and receive notifications regarding arrival schedules and delays," he said.
Vice-Chancellor Professor Mohammad Kamrul Ahsan praised the initiative, saying technology-based solutions like this are timely and necessary to reduce transport-related sufferings for students.
