Friday, 8 August 2008

Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) president Azizul Bari Helal and Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) general secretary Mahfuzul Haider Chowdhury Roton were released from jail Thursday, report UNB/bdnews24.com.

Jail sources said Helal was set free from Dhaka Central Jail on bail at about 10:25 am.

JCD leaders and activists welcomed their chief at the jail gate.

Later, he went to his Maghbazar residence in the city.

The High Court Sunday granted interim bail to Helal, who was arrested on charge of violating the Emergency Power Rules.

On the other hand, BCL leader Roton was released on the day after days of violent campaign on Dhaka University campus followed by a meeting between the DU vice chancellor and the chief adviser late Wednesday.

Roton was released shortly after 4pm, Mymensingh additional police super Akhteruzzaman said.

A leader of the Awami League-backed student organisation had said that Roton had been taken to a Mymensingh court and was on the way to be freed.
