The JCI Bangladesh debate team clinched the championship title at the international debate competition held at the Junior Chamber International (JCI) Asia Pacific Conference in Siem Reap, Cambodia recently. The Bangladesh team defeated Mongolia in the final to claim the top spot, outshining debaters from 11 selected countries. Earlier, they had defeated Malaysia, the previous year's winner, in the semi-finals.
By defeating Mongolia, JCI Bangladesh has been crowned champion of the Asia Pacific region and has earned the honour of raising the red and green flag on the world stage. The Bangladesh team was represented by JCI Bangladesh National Vice Presidents Samiha Akhter and Zafir Shafiee Chowdhury, and International Affairs Chairperson Muntasir Mamun.
Samiha Akhter expressed her joy, stating, "Debating requires a person to research a lot of different topics and present arguments in a structured manner, backed up by facts. We've practised many times and in the end that's what made us win." Another teammate, Zafir Shafiee Chowdhury, echoed the excitement, saying, "We are tremendously thrilled to become the champions of the Asia Pacific region. Now our eyes are on the world title. We want to hoist our red and green flag on the top."
The JCI Asia Pacific Conference was attended by over 5,000 young people from 20 countries around the world. The event included multiple skill development sessions, business matching events, networking sessions, and other activities aimed at fostering international cooperation and leadership. Led by JCI Bangladesh National President Imran Kadir, 89 JCI Bangladesh members attended the conference from Bangladesh and established connections with successful young people from around the world with the aim of playing a leadership role in all fields.
Junior Chamber International (JCI), established in 1915, is a global leadership development organisation that works with young individuals aged 18-40. Present in over 120 countries, JCI provides leadership development opportunities to create positive change. In Bangladesh, JCI boasts more than 5,000 members who actively participate in various initiatives to foster personal and professional growth.
