Jessore AL leader gunned down

A leader of Jessore's Abhoynagar Upazila unit of Awami League (AL) has been shot to death by some unknown assailants. Locals said Oliar Rahman, 50, joint General Secretary of the Abhoynagar Upazila unit of AL and also a councillor of Noapara municipality was returning home after saying Fazr prayers at a mosque at Abhoynagar’s Guakhola village on Sunday morning. A gang of armed miscreants swooped on him and sprayed bullets on him, leaving him critically injured at the Guakhola village around 7:30 am. Oliar died on the way to Khulna Medical College Hospital. Chhoyer Uddin, officer-in-charge of Abhoynagar Police Station, confirmed the incident, according to a news agency.
