Jessore bus crash death toll rises to 10

The death toll in Jessore bus accident rose to 10 as three more injured passengers died in hospitals on Tuesday morning. Police and witnesses said 20 other people were injured in the accident at Godkhali at Beneali on Jessore-Benapole Highway in Jhikargachha Upazila around 7am on Tuesday. The death toll may rise further, said Jhikargacha OC Md Mosharraf. The passengers were travelling in a ‘Shohagh Paribahan’ bus that was heading from Dhaka to Benapole, he said. Six of the deceased were identified. They are, Prasanjit Paul, 25, hailing from Shariatpur district, Zaman, 27, a resident of Demra, Dhaka city, Jamal Hossain, Bidyut Ghose, Ranjit Paul and ‘Salam’ from Dhaka district. Six bodies have been kept at Jhikargacha Police Station, one at the Jhikargacha Health Complex while three bodies are at the Jessore Government Hospital. Most of the injured were rescued and rushed to Jhikargacha Upazila health Complex. Assistant superintendent of police Reshma Sharmin of Jessore said the bus ramped into tree around 7:00am and slewed off into roadside ditch after its driver lost control over the steering, report agencies.
