Jhantu calls for supplying natural gas to Rangpur

RANGPUR, Aug 10 (BSS): Mayor of Rangpur City Corporation (RCC) and valiant freedom fighter Alhaj Sarfuddin Ahmed Jhantu has called for supplying natural gas through pipelines to Rangpur region for accelerating industrialisation and uplift.
"The demand of gas supply to Rangpur has become a people's desire now," the Mayor said at an exceptional pre-rally discussion organised on Public Library premises in the city by 'Cycle of Warriors of Rangpur' on Saturday afternoon.
President of 'Cycle of Warriors of Rangpur' Saiful Islam Bandhon presided over the occasion organised to express solidarity with the movement launched by the RCC Mayor for fulfilling the demand of natural gas supply to Rangpur.
Sixty members of the organisation took part in the exceptional bicycle rally inaugurated by the Mayor and it paraded streets of the divisional city to mobilise public opinion in favour of the demand.
Councilors of RCC, socio-cultural and professional activists, civil society members and elite of the city attended the pre-rally discussion.
The RCC Mayor explained arguments justifying the demand for supply of natural gas here for enhancing industrialization, employment and uniform development and economic uplift of the economically backward Rangpur region.
He expressed firm hope that the present government led by Prime Minster Sheikh Hasina would take necessary steps for supplying natural gas to Rangpur region at the earliest for ensuring quicker development of Rangpur region.
