JHENIDAH, Apr 13: A wonderful instrument for retention of water level has been  innovated by Md. Abdus Sobhan, a retired professor of mathematics of Government Nurunnahar Women' College, Jhenidah. The device can be used for flood control, arsenic-free water and keeping water level normal, the inventor claimed.
In the dry season in many places of Bangladesh  including the south western (S-W) region water is hard to lift.
But with the appliance of the cheap three-level instrument, scarcity of water will not be felt in the countries of the world where lots of rainfall is recorded. Rain water can be stored in the underground water layers in the rainy season to be used in the dry season through a tube-well with the help of the 6.5-foot pipe put  around 2 feet far from it.
The instrument consists of three parts including a 1.5-foot upper pipe. During raining the cover on the top of the pipe has to be opened to let rain water enter the pipe. Underground water comprises of three layers, to name sand, wood coal and fine sand. Water will enter into underground through the three layers after filtering.
Water will enter the pipe through a bamboo pipe set with the corner of a tin roof of  a house. If around 5 ml rain water can be stored through devices in an area out of 20 ml, flood will be controlled. If rain water is entered into the tube-wells water which contain excessive arsenic, its degree can be reduced. Thus safe water will be available.
The inventor said that underground water is like that of a pond. When water is entered, the level soars but when it is extracted, the water level goes down.
According to the inventor underground water layer is also like a pitcher. Underground water consists of two layers - permeable and impermeable. Both the layers are capable of retaining water.
Sea salty water which is moving towards us through underground water layers is possible to prevent. If rain water or river water through filtering can be entered into underground thus fulfilling water layers, sea salty water which is trying to come up, cannot enter them.
Water of most of the rivers in Dhaka has turned polluted. Rivers water of Dhaka and Chittagong is being made drinkable through filtering. If the authority can enter the water of the rivers of Dhaka region into underground water layers through filtering, people will not feel scarcity of water in the dry season, the device inventor claimed. "I'm ready to give any scientific explanation'' said Mr. Sobhan.
