JHENIDAH, July 15: Jhenidah Technical Training Centre (TTC) is conducting activities with backdated equipment, accommodation crisis, manpower shortage and insufficient budget for raw materials, electricity-telephone-internet bills and others. Furthermore, teachers and employees have not been getting their salaries and allowances for the last 4 months.
Under "2 TTC Establishment Project'' Jhenidah TTC was founded at Arappur, in front of Jhenidah Cadet College, on the outskirts of the town covering an area of 3 acres in 2006.
With an objective of poverty alleviation, abatement of increasing unemployment of the district, development of socio-economic infrastructure, creation of skilled manpower, technical and vocational training, are being conducted here in the centre, official sources cited.
The TTC started 2-year long SSC vocational training activities in 7 trades on Computer Operation, Garments Electronics, Electrical, Farm Machinery, Wielding and Fabrication and Refrigeration and Air-conditioning courses approved by Bureau of Manpower, Employment and Training (BMET) in January, 2007. Every trade has a capacity of 35 seats. The centre also launched a Swanirbhor (self-supporting) evening course in all the approved trades simultaneously.
In view of the demand of the area, a proposal for introducing a number of courses according to the syllabi of newly compiled short courses has been sent to the Director General (DG) of BMET for approval, sources said.
Out of 190 students attending the SSC vocational course (January-June, 2014), 140 pupils passed with 9 students securing A+.
After passing from this training centre, students will have scope of jobs in various institutions, including government and semi-government offices, autonomous bodies, industries and factories, concerned sources said.
Rain water enters into the labs and class rooms as a portion of the roof of the Academic Building was rendered broken by storm, said Rashida Sultana, a trainee in the TTC.
Alok Kumar, Vice-principal (in-charge) of Jhenidah TTC told the FE, the increasing number of students demand new courses to be introduced here immediately.
