JICA Alumni Assoc organise tree plantation programme

Japan International Co-operation Agency (JICA) Alumni Association, Bangladesh organised a "Tree Plantation Programme" at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Agricultural University (BSMRAU) in Gazipur recently.
BSMRAU Vice-chancellor Lutfor Rahman Khan was present as the chief guest at the programme while JICA Bangladesh Office Resident Representative Nobuko Suzuki Kayashima was the special guest.
President of the Association Md Ajmal Chawdhury presided over the function.
Speaking on the occasion, Lutfor Rahman Khan said that impact of climate change on the ecology might be reduced by developing greenery.
He also mentioned that the last one decade the forest cover in the country declined to 9-10 per cent.
Noboku Suzuki Kayashima expressed the hope that tree plantation programme would be further intensified with the support of JICA Alumni Association to face the climate change effect.
She added due to climate change, the sea level is rising and the deforestation is taking place alarmingly.
Project Coordinator of Japan International cooperation Centre (JICE) Rikako Suzuki invited the Bangladesh government officials to take advantage of the scholarships to be awarded by JICE.
General Secretary of JICA Alumni Association, Bangla-desh Md Ejar Uddin and Ismail Hossain Mian also spoke on the occasion.
