JICA delegation discusses issue with CCC mayor

CHITTAGONG, Aug 22: A Japanese team visited Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) Thursday to conduct a survey on the city's solid waste management by JICA (Japan International Cooperation Agency) as the CCC proposed for the same in the light of the principles of investment between the government of Japan and Bangladesh.
The four-member team includes deputy chief of Yachiyo Engineering Co Ltd (YEC) Yume Mori, deputy section manager Takato Shi Arai, executive adviser Aklo Ishii and deputy section manager Akinori Seino.
They met with city mayor M Manjur Alam in his office and presented a paper on the solid waste management.
The team members also discussed in detail existing solid waste collection process, volume of waste, vans used in waste collection, fuelling of waste collection vans, existing containers used in the waste collection, condition of the existing mini transfer station, future plan of transfer station, future plan of landfill, waste management, recycling plant, environment education, organisational structure plus revenue earned and expenditure of solid waste management over the last three years in CCC.
The city mayor said the Japanese team has assured the CCC of its full cooperation in the solid waste management. Chief planner AKM Rezaul Karim, engineer Monirul Huda and chief conservancy officer Shafiqul Mannan Siddiqui have been assigned the task of extending all support to the team, he said. Senior officials of the CCC were present on the occasion.
