JMBA renamed as BBA

Monday, 5 November 2007

The Council of Advisers of the caretaker government Sunday approved a proposal extending the deferment period of implementation of "uniform education system" for class IX and X up to December 31, 2008 for further preparation and review, reports UNB.
In another major step of the caretaker government, the Jamuna Multipurpose Bridge Authority (JMBA) has been renamed Bangladesh Bridge Authority (BBA) for the convenience of managing the other big bridges the country has got and is going to build.
A regular weekly meeting of the advisory council chaired by Chief Adviser Dr Fakhruddin Ahmed also extended the deadline for competence test of the registered non-government primary school teachers who enjoy government subsidy on their salary.
The date of the competence test now has been extended to March 2008 from earlier 18th November 2007. During this period, the primary school teachers who did not give the test will get the government subsidy on their salary.
Recently, the High Court issued a stay order for three months which instructed the authorities not to take competence test during this period following two writ petitions filed against an order of the Primary and Mass Education Ministry.
The meeting approved a proposal for changing the name of Jamuna Multipurpose Bridge Authority to Bangladesh Bridge Authority (BBA) considering its involvement with the activities of bridges across the country. In this regard, the council approved the Jamuna Multipurpose Bridge (Amendment) Ordinance 2007.
