Job-centric higher education

Wednesday, 13 July 2022

Higher education should prepare a student for the job market. Unfortunately, in Bangladesh, many graduates are struggling to gain their desired employment even after acquiring university degrees. Students from a handful of universities find it relatively easy to access employment, but there are many who cannot compete in the job market.
Our education sector must consider this issue and standardise the syllabus in all universities. Unnecessary subjects that do not support students' professional careers must be attuned to needs so that students do not prove a burden. Also, higher educational institutions should be encouraged to draw curricula and courses in line with the requirements of the job market. Without readjustments, our higher educational institutions will serve little purpose and our graduates will continue to suffer.
