Jobless Mongla dock employees getting back jobs

KHULNA, May 9: At last about one hundred officers and employees of abolished Mongla Port Dock Labour Directory Board are going to be absorbed within a week after 3 years of abolishing the board. According to direction of shipping ministry all formalities have been finalized to absorb the officers and employees. According to source, Mongla Port Dock Labour Directory Board was started in 1987. The loading unloading work of the port had been conducted by the dock labourers under the directory board from the beginning. But various allegations have been raised against the board from different concerned corners who suggested to abolish the board. Political governments had taken initiatives to abolish the Board at various times but failed due to bureaucratic complexity. Initiatives had been taken to modernise and update the port during the last caretaker government. For this reason, Mongla Port Dock Labour Directory Board has been abolished in August-1, 2008. As a result, over one hundred staffs and employees of the board had become jobless and loading unloading work started under the control of stevedore owners after 21 years. Later the jobless labourers started movement. The Vice-chairman of abolished Dock Labour Directory Board and Director Traffic Mahbubullah said all processes have been completed to absorb the staffs and employees. Drug peddler sentenced Another report adds : A mobile court sentenced a drug peddler to two-year jail in the Khulna town. Executive magistrate (NDC) Alimun Razib meted out the penalty to Mamun Hossain (26) of Bagmara main road of the town Sunday and sent him to jail. Police said that on a secret information OC Khulna thana raided the Bagmara area of the town and arrested him red-handed while he was selling drug. Later, a mobile court led by Magistrate Alimun Razib prosecuted him on the spot and handed down the sentence Sunday. One commits suicide Another report adds : One Ranjon Kabiraj (50) committed suicide by taking pesticide at village Bashurabad under Batiaghata Upazila of the district. Family source said that Ranjon took pesticide over family feud Sunday. He was rushed to hospital and the duty doctor declared him dead. Daulatpur Jute Mills resumes soon Another report adds : Jute and Textile Minister Abdul Latif Siddiq said that the processes has been started to re-start the closed Daulatpur Jute Mills. He also directed the concerned and project head of the mill Monowar Hossain to start the infrastructure and maintenance work of the mill immediately, said the minister while he was visited the mill Sunday noon. During the visit the mill the minister was accompanied by the Secretary of BJMC Abdul Mazid, Director BJMC (Marketing ) Shamsul Haq, BJMC Liaison officer of Khulna Zone Rafiqul Islam and Head of the project of Khulna Zone Jute Mills. Daulatpur Jute mill was closed in December-7, 2002 for incurring losses.
