Join hands for successful election, VC urges all

Rajshahi University (RU) Vice-Chancellor (VC) Professor Dr. Saleh Hasan Naqib on Sunday called upon teachers, students, officers and employees of RU to work together to ensure a successful RUCSU election.
He made the call at a press conference held at the university's Senate Building in the afternoon.
The Rajshahi University Central Students' Union (RUCSU) election is set to be held on October 16.
"Reviving RUCSU after nearly 35 years of inactivity was one of our key objectives. We formed a strong and effective election commission which has already completed the electoral preparations, including the announcement of the schedule, scrutiny of nomination papers, and publication of the final candidate list," the VC said.
"The enthusiasm and democratic spirit among students regarding the election are truly commendable," he also said, highlighting delay in amending the constitution, admission procedures, and differing opinions from stakeholders -- as a few of the reasons which obstructed the hosting of the polls earlier.
"If teachers, students, officers, and employees work collectively, we will be able to make it a success, taking the university a step forward," he furthered.
Responding to a question on vote counting, the VC said, "It will not take us three days to count the votes. We have a skilled technical team to manage the entire process. From opening ballot boxes to counting votes, every step will be conducted transparently under camera surveillance."
"Not only RU students, but, people across the country will be able to witness the process through the media. The election commission expects to complete the counting within 12 to 15 hours," he also said.
RU Pro-Vice Chancellor (Administration) Professor Dr. Main Uddin said, "We have already started renovation work at the RUCSU building so that elected representatives can take their designated rooms right after the election."
