Extending complete support to the students' 'one-point demand' for the resignation of the government, Bangladesh Nationalist Party ( BNP) has fervently called upon the countrymen to join the ongoing movement and topple the government.
"Today we extend our full support to the students' ongoing logical, just and peaceful movement. We also urge all opposition political parties, organisations, professional bodies, farmers, labourers and countrymen to get united and ensure the fall of this diabolic, killer and illegitimate government," Secretary General of BNP Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir told the media at a press briefing at the party chairperson's Gulshan office in the capital on Sunday.
"It's unprecedented in the history of this subcontinent the way the ruling Awami League has taken the path of cruelty and barbarism to suppress the students' quota reform movement," he said.
He said the law enforcing agencies, Chhatra League and Jubo League activists have killed innocent people by indiscriminate firing like birds and piled up the dead bodies one after another.
Conditions of several thousand wounded people are still critical.
He alleged that ruling Awami League activists have attacked houses of BNP standing committee member Amir Kashru Mahmud Chowdhury and other party leaders in Chattogram and ransacked restaurant of party leader Aminul Haque in the capital Dhaka in presence of law enforcers.
"A mass uprising has started in the country," he said.
"The hands of this illegal regime are getting tainted with blood of Sayeed, Mugdha and several hundred other innocent students, children and people," he continued.
"People have started coming out on the streets in protest against the dreadful mass killing by the government. Students, professionals, fathers, mothers, sisters, brothers, teachers, journalists, artists and others are now united and they are now on the same page," he maintained.
"The coordinators of the anti-discrimination student movement in front of the mammoth public gathering at Shaheed Minar demanded on Saturday immediate resignation of the government and hold election under a neutral caretaker government," he stated.
"All people of the country have extended support to the demand for the resignation of the government and hold a national election under a neutral caretaker administration since 2012," he continued.
"This illegitimate government has scrapped the caretaker government system and destroyed democratic system by creating an unstable situation in the country permanently," he stated.
"This government has destroyed the country's democratic state structure and the country's economy by committing an unprecedented level of corruption," he said.
He accused the government of killing several hundred people and suppressing the students' quota reform movement brutally.
He said that even a four-year-old child had to die following the government's ongoing killing orgy.
