Joint forces detect Tk 1.1m tax evasion

CHITTAGONG, July 01: A sensational incident of evading big amount of duty worth Tk 1.10 million in importing surgical accessories through forgery of CRF has been unearthed by the joint forces, concerned sources said.

An importer organisation named Medicare Services imported some surgical accessories in the month of October last year, prepares CRF value of these products was 34,699.55 US Dollar. But the importer organisation allegedly in collaboration with a section of dishonest Customs officials, tampered with the original copy of CRF and import related bank copy and erased the first number of the figure. In this way , the importer executed taxation of the imported consignment showing 4699.50 US dollar in the place of 34,699.50 US dollar.

It is gathered, on finding the source of irregularities, joint forces conducted investigations and found that the concerned importer opened LC for 2675.25 US dollar with the Sonali Bank , Motijheel Branch for importing the stated materials.Remaining amount of money for imports is assumed to have been trafficked through hundi. Necessary steps are being taken to bring to book the culprits liable for the incident, sources added.
