Jordan king favours alternative energy

Sunday, 22 May 2011

AMMAN, May 21 (Xinhua): King Abdullah II of Jordan said Saturday alternative energy is a promising sector in the Arab kingdom, noting that latest explorations indicated that Jordan is number 11 in world uranium reserves, the state-run Petra news agency reported. "It's time to discuss how to make use of wind, solar and nuclear energy regarding Jordan's future," the king said at the opening of the First Jordan-US Business Forum, which brought about over 150 leaders representing global organisations in both private and public sectors. Jordan, which imports about 95 per cent of its energy needs annually, is planning to create at least one nuclear reactor during the next decade for power generation.
