Journalists deserve better approach from politicians

Monday, 30 June 2014

Senior Awami League leader Suranjit Sengupta Monday urged politicians to maintain good relations with journalists and talk to them judiciously instead of issuing threats.
“The relation between journalists and politicians is not of arrogance. They’re complementary to each other. A politician can increase his or her relations with people only through journalists. So, we have to talk to them with a good approach,” he said, according to a news agency.
The senior ruling party leader said this while addressing a discussion organized by Nauka Samarthak Ghosti at the Institution of Diploma Engineers in the city.
Suranjit said this in the wake of Narayanganj ruling party MP Shamim Osman’s abusive remarks against journalists on Thursday saying that “journalists are no better than dogs”.
“Recently, a politician talked to journalists with harsh words. I didn’t feel good with the words he used,” Suranjit said.
He said it is pointless to think that all the works of politicians are good. “People judge the image of a politician as portrayed in the media. So, all will have to take lessons in this regard.”
