Journalists for cancellation of new National Broadcasting Policy
Tuesday, 5 August 2014
A section of journalists demonstrated Tuesday demanding cancellation of the National Broadcasting Policy 2014 saying that it has been formulated to gag the voice of the media.
They held a rally and brought out a procession in front of the Jatiya Press Club Tuesday, protesting the Cabinet’s approval to the policy Monday, according to a news agency.
The rally was jointly organised by a faction of the Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ) and Dhaka Union of Journalists (DUJ).
Addressing the rally, BFUJ president Shawkat Mahmud said there’ll be no discussion with Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu until the broadcasting policy is cancelled.
He said meetings will be periodically held with the newsmen and editors to wage a countrywide movement to force the government to cancel the policy.
DUJ President Abdul Hai Shikdar, former BFUJ President Ruhul Amin Gazi and BFUJ General Secretary MA Aziz, among others, attended the rally.
