Journalists urged to focus on volunteerism in dev works

Information and Cultural Affairs Minister Abul Kalam Azad Tuesday urged the journalists to promote volunteerism in the development activities across the country, reports UNB.
The Information Minister made the appeal while speaking at the inaugural function of a "Media Workshop on Recognising Volunteerism" jointly organised by local office of the United Nations and National Press Club at its auditorium in the city Tuesday.
The Minister said the media could play a vital role in promoting and recognising the volunteer activities, particularly in achieving the millennium development goals (MDGs).
National Press Club President Shawkat Mahmud appreciated the role of volunteer bodies of the United Nations. But he questioned the role of UN local office about 1/11 changeover in 2007.
UNDP Deputy Country Director Robert Juhkam, UNIC Director Ali Reza and General Secretary Kamal Uddin Sabuj also spoke at the function.
