Journo and ex-MP Baby Moudud no more

Senior journalist and ex-MP N Mahfuza Khatun Baby Moudud, also a close friend of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, died on Friday noon. She was 66, report agencies.
Suffering from cancer for long, she breathed her last at the United Hospital in the capital where she had been under treatment, family sources said. She left behind two sons and a host of relatives and admirers to mourn her death.
President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina expressed deep shock and sorrow at the death of Baby Moudud, who was also a writer.
On receiving the news, the Prime Minister visited the hospital to have a last glimpse of her departed friend.
Sheikh Hasina has expressed deep sorrow at the demise of Baby Maudud. A condolence message from the prime minister's press wing Friday said, "The prime minister has expressed deep sorrow at the demise of renowned journalist, writer and former MP AN Mahfuza Khatun Baby Maudud."
"In her death, I have lost a dear and a long-time friend," she said.
"The nation has lost a dedicated journalist and a writer at Baby Maudud's death," Hasina said in the message.
The prime minister said Maudud was a trustworthy friend.
She had worked for different newspapers and media outfits, including BBC, BSS, weekly Bichitra, Dainik Sangbad and Dainik Ittefaq.  Baby Moudud was born on June 23, 1948. Her father was Justice Abdul Moudud and mother Hedayetun Nesa.
