Journo couple assaulted by Ansars in city
Saturday, 15 March 2014
A journalist couple was brutalised by Ansar members in the city's Shyamoli area on Thursday night, reports UNB.
The incident occurred as Towhid Shanta, a reporter of private channel Asian TV, protested abuses hurled by the Ansar men at his wife Sajeda Sweety, a reporter of online news portal Banglanews24.com, around 11:30pm.
Towhid said his wife Sajeda came to the PKSF Shyamoli office, where he took part in a training programme, to go together to their house.
About 7-8 Ansar members who were on duty passed indecent comments towards Sajeda while she was dispensing news to her media outlet from the PKSF premises.
Divulging their journalist identities, Towhid protested their impolite comments.
However, Ansar members branded the duo as 'fake journalists' and started hurling abuses towards them.
At one stage, the rude law enforcers beat the journalist couple with rifles and boots saying that Towhid came to snatch their arms.
However, they released the couple when other journalists came to the spot on information.
M Azizul Hoque, officer-in-charge of Mohammadpur thana, said they will take action against those responsible after investigation.
