Journo Obaidul Haque dies

CHITTAGONG, July 20: Veteran journalist and former president of Chittagong Press Club (CPC) M Obaidul Haque died on Monday at a clinic in Chittagong. He was 87.
He left five sons, two daughters, grandsons, granddaughters and a host of relatives.
His namaj-e-janaja was held at Chittagong Journalists Cooperative Housing Society, CPC and Jamiatul Falah Mosjid. Later, he was buried at his family graveyard at Kathirhat under Hathazari.
Obaidul Haque retired as the chief reporter of regional Bangla daily the Azadi, and was a founder member of CPC. He served the daily for 40 years.
Housing and Public Works Minister Mosharraf Hossain, Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Nurul Islam BSc, deputy commissioner of Chittagong Mesbah Uddin, administrator of Chittagong Jila Parishad MA Salam, former minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury, former city mayor Mahmudul Islam Chowdhury, and presidents and general secretaries of CPC and Chittagong Union of Journalists Kalim Sarwar, Mohsin Chowdhury, Ejaz Yusufi and Hasan Ferdous respectively, were present in his namaj-e-janaja, among others.
Leaders of CPC, Chittagong Union of Jour-nalists, Chittagong Journalists Cooperative Housing Society, Chittagong TV Journalists Association, Chittagong Metropolitan Journalists Union, Chittagong Photo Journalists Association, and Chittagong TV Photo Journalists Association mourned the death of Obaidul Haque.
