Journo stabbed dead, his father injured

A journalist, stabbed by a miscreant in Chuadanga on Tuesday night, succumbed to his injuries at a Dhaka hospital on Wednesday afternoon. Journalist Abu Sayem’s father Abul Khayer Mollah was also injured in the attack by the assailant at Jibannagar upazila of Chuadanga district. Abu Sayem was a local correspondent of national Bangla daily Samokal. Family sources said, Sayem breathed his last at the National Institute of Diseases of the Chest and Hospital in the city’s Mohakhali around 6pm. Local sources said, a man wearing ‘red colour’ cloth entered Sayem’s bedroom and stabbed him with a sharp weapon. He received grievous injuries in his chest. The unidentified criminal also stabbed Abul Khayer Mollah and fled the scene immediately, local people said. The injured were rescued and rushed to Jibannagar Upazila Health Complex. Sayem was shifted to Jessore General Hospital and later to National Institute of Diseases of the Chest and Hospital in Dhaka as his condition deteriorated. Jibannagar police station’s sub-inspector (SI) Ashraf said they had detained a youth Rajib, 32, from Manoharpur area on Wednesday in connection with the attack and murder, according to a news agency.
