Journos hail govt, minister for passing trust law

Leaders of the BFUJ and DUJ have congratulated the government of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Information Minister Hasanul Huq Inu, members of the parliamentary standing committee on information and all members of parliament for passing the ‘Journalists’ Welfare Trust’. In an impromptu response, secretary general of Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ) Abdul Jalil Bhuyian and president of Dhaka Union of Journalists (DUJ) Altaf Mahmud dubbed the decision as ‘epoch-making’. ‘It has ushered in a new era for journalists and journalism in the country,’ they said. Besides, leaders and members of Freedom Fighter Journalist Command, Uttar Banga Sangbadik Samity and a number of other journalist organisations also congratulated the government and the minister for passing the law. The law for establishing a Trust for journalists was passed on Tuesday by the 10th Jatiya Sangsad (parliament), according to BSS.
