Joypurhat BRAC Bank heist mastermind held

The suspected mastermind of the robbery at BRAC Bank branch in Joypurhat has been attested in Kushtia. Joypurhat Police Station OC Abdur Rashid said he was arrested in Kushtia town on Thursday and Tk 900,000 was recovered from him. The officer declined to divulge the arrestee’s identity ‘in the interest of investigation’. Robbers on Sept 26 night knocked down the wall of the bank’s branch on the 1st floor of a building at Sadar Street in Joypurhat district town and made off with Tk 19.95 million from the vault. On Wednesday, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) held two other people in Fatullah in Narayanganj district over the bank robbery. A team of RAB-11 picked up Babul Das and Uttam Mallick from their rented house, owned by Nazir Mia, in Fatullah’s Pilkuni. On Sunday, Bangladesh Bank formed a committee to investigate the BRAC Bank robbery. The central bank’s Bogra region Deputy General Manager (DGM) Murtoza Ali is heading the 3-member team. The two other members are Bangladesh Bank Assistant Directors Nurul Huda and Sabbir Ahmed, according to a news agency.
