Joypurhat farmers cash in on cauliflowers

JOYPURHAT, Nov 20: A bumper cauliflower cultivation is in progress in Joypurhat district this winter season. Joypurhat Agriculture Extension Department sources said a thousand acre of land has been brought under the vegetable cultivation when the target was 7 hundred acre.
Of all the winter vegetable items cauliflower is the farmers' favourite over other items. The buyers look for it when they come to buy vegetable in the kitchen market, said most of the vegetable traders in the district.
Harun-or-Rashid a vegetable grower of Kashiabari village under Sadar Upazila has successfully cultivated cauliflower and cabbage. When visited his vegetable field this correspondent came to know that the cultivation of cauliflower and cabbage has changed his life. He said he has cultivated one acre of land of cauliflower and earned one lakh Taka already and have more cauliflower left for sale when his production cost was only Tk. 2500. He also said every year he earns Tk. 2 lakh from cabbage and cauliflower cultivation.
Like Harun most of the vegetable growers in the district expressed the same view to the correspondent that they earn handsome amount by cultivating cauliflower.
Now cauliflower is being sold at 15 to 20 Tk per piece in wholesale and 20 to 30 Tk in retail market as the growers, traders and consumers all are happy for the current price of it.
