JOYPURHAT, Nov 23: Farmers of five upazilas in Joypurhat district are very much interested in BADC boro seed collection for coming Irri-boro season. Most of the farmers are seeking BADC seed in time for their seedbed. They are visiting BADC office and sales centres early in the day. Some agri-card holders could collect the targeted seed and others are coming back without seeds. Some big farmers are unhappy getting insufficient BADC supplied seed. They alleged that for better results they want to collect this seed but BADC is supplying insufficient seed among the big boro paddy growers whereas the small growers are getting sufficient supply.
Nazrul Islam a farmer of Ramkrishnapur village under Sadar Upazila claimed that he would cultivate 3 acres of land for boro paddy but he got only 2 sacks of seed against a demand for 8 sacks.
Gojar Hossain a farmer of vadsha UP told FE that he would cultivate 2 bighas of land but he have got only one sack which is much less than necessity.
Bangladesh Agriculture Development Corporation (BADC) Joypurhat office has begun their targeted boro seed selling among the listed farmer of 5 Upazila in Joypurhat district.
Most of the farmers who came to collect BADC seed said that for better production they had come to BADC office to buy the boro seed. They added that the high quality boro seed sold privately is of higher price as BADC office is selling it at only 330 Tk a 10 kg sack.
