The Jatiya Party (JP) has nominated Selim Osman, brother of deceased Narayanganj-5 MP Nasim Osman, for the by-poll on June 26. The ruling Awami League has decided not to field its candidate for the seat vacated by the death of JP lawmaker Nasim Osman’s death on April 30. This was decided at a meeting of the party’s Parliamentary Committee on Wednesday. ‘As per the decision of the party’s chairman, Selim Osman has been nominated as Jatiya Party’s candidate for the Narayanganj-5 bypoll,’ the party’s Secretary General Ziauddin Ahmed Bablu told reporters after the meeting. Earlier in the day, Selim bought the nomination paper from JP at the party’s Banani office. He was accompanied by his brother Shamim Osman, ruling Awami League MP of Narayanganj-4, according to bdnews24.com.
