Jr tennis initiative programme begins June 14

The BRAC Bank Junior Tennis Initiative (JTI) Programme, organised by Bangladesh Tennis Federation (BTF), begins in the city on June 14, reports UNB.

The main objective of the programme is to introduce tennis among the school kids.

Some 12,000 students (8-10 years) from 120 schools across the country will undergo this programme in Dhaka, Rajshahi, Chittagong, Naogaon, Bogra and Madaripur.

BTF has already appointed 20 coaches to conduct the programme. Federation joint secretary AKMA Quddus Bulu will supervise the programme. Former BKSP player Rashedul Haque Rumi will coordinate the field training proceedings.

Over the next one year, the coaches will go to these selected 120 schools one by one and will train the school kids with the assistance of respective school sports teacher.

To run the programme successfully, BTF will also arrange 10 local level and two national level tournaments over the year.

Out of the estimated budget of Tk 1 million (10 lakh), International Tennis Federation (ITF) will assist with US$ 5,000 apart from providing sporting kits worth US$ 3,000.

As the title sponsor of the programme, BRAC Bank has provided Tk 500,000.

Suresh Menon, ITF development officer of the Asian Region, will arrive here on June 12 to witness the programme activities. Menon will also inaugurate a daylong training programme for the coaches on June 13.

BTF General Secretary Mohammad Sanaul Haque disclosed the details at a press briefing at its conference room Tuesday afternoon.

BTF President AMM Nasir Uddin, BRAC Bank Managing Director and CEO Abdul Muhaimen and its head of marketing and corporate affairs Abedur Rahman Sikder were, among others, present.
