JS body assures smooth supply of electricity for irrigation

The government will take steps for ensuring smooth supply of electricity from 11 PM to 8 AM in irrigation projects, said a JS press release in the city Sunday.

The first meeting of the Standing Committee of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources on the electricity issues held at Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban in Dhaka.

Chairman of the committee Mohammad Shubid Ali Bhuiyan presided over the meeting.

The meeting was informed that Bangladesh had a rich reserve of coal and therefore the coal policy should be formulated at least for 5-6 years to get the desired result.

It laid emphasized on installation of nuclear power plant in the country to meet the increasing demand for electricity in years ahead.

The meeting observed that utilization of gas in cooking should be discouraged and media campaign is needed to ensure effective use of gas and electricity both in rural and urban areas.

The meeting also discussed on other related issues including replacement of captive generation of power, recruitment of skilled manpower, rationalization of gas price and increase production of electricity.

Committee chief Mohammad Shubid Ali Bhuiyan MP directed the officials to come forward with proposal for increasing production of electricity in the next meeting.

Member of the Committee and State Minister for Energy and Mineral Resources Shamsul Hoq Tuku, Members of the committee Abdul Matin Khashru, Mazibur Rahman Fakir, Sheikh Fazle Noor Tapos, Mohammad Enamul Hoq and Md Abdul Kader Khan attended the meeting.
