JS body effective steps to check river erosion

The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Water Resources Ministry on Thursday recommended taking effective steps to prevent erosion in the areas prone to river bank erosion. The parliamentary body made the recommendation at its 5th meeting at the Jatiya Sangsad (JS) Bhaban, with committee Chairman Ramesh Chandra Sen presiding, said an official release. Committee members Anisul Islam Mahmud, Mohammad Nazrul Islam, AKM Fazlul Haq, M Farudul Haq Khan, Mohammad Ekramul Karim Chowdhury, Mostafizur Rahman Chowdhury, Anupam Shahjahan Joy and Selina Jahan Lita attended the meeting. The meeting discussed in detail the Water Management Improvement Project (WAMIP). It also discussed the activities undertaken by the water resources ministry during the current flood situation and the project for protection of Chowhali Upazila in Sirajganj from the erosion of the Jamuna, according to a news agency.
