JS body for action against illegal VoIP

A parliamentary watchdog body recommended Sunday strict enforcement of the existing law to stop thriving illegal VoIP business in the country.
The Parliamentary Standing Committee on public undertakings also suggested taking "necessary steps, including flashing advertisement, to increase the number of subscribers to the state-owned telecom company Teletalk".
Official sources said the JS body made the recommendations at its 5th meeting in the 10th parliament in presence of its chairman, Shawkat Ali, at the parliament building.
Other committee members--Muhibur Rahman Manik, Subid Ali Bhuiyan, Habibur Rahman, Abdul Wadud, Abdur Rauf and Adv Navana Akter-attended the meeting.
Meanwhile, a meeting of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on health ministry recommended the 3rd subcommittee of the same ministry to revisit the 45 pharmaceutical companies under scrutiny and submit report within next four months. The Dhaka University professor of medical technology who heads the subcommittee as an expert will submit the report.
The committee also suggested inviting open tender again for building Gopalganj Essential Drugs Building considering its present construction situation.
Also, the parliamentary panel asked the ministry to finish all the works on construction of Begum Sahera Khatun Medical College Hospital in Gopalganj by next December.
The JS body made the recommendations in its 2nd meeting in the 10th parliament, with committee chairman Sheikh Fazlul Haque Selim in the chair.
Present at the meeting were committee members Health Minister Mohammad Nasim, Zahed Malik, Mojibur Rahman Fakir, AFM Ruhal Haque, Abdul Wadud, Yunus Ali Sarkar, NIzam Uddin Hazari, Shariful Islam Jinnah and Selina Begum.
Another policy meeting was held by the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Primary Education that recommended publishing recruitment notice in newspapers to appoint 9,000 primary teachers in fresh posts and night guards in 1,500 primary schools.
Reviewing the progress of work of Children's Welfare Trust, the committee asked the ministry to take necessary actions to conduct the primary and technical education programme for the working children. The meeting was held at the parliament building in presence of its chairman Motahar Hossain. Other members present were Primary and Mass Education Minister Mostafizur Rahman, Shamsul Haq Chowdhury, Nazrul Islam Babu, Abul Kalam, Ali Azam, Mohammad Iliyas and Umme Razia Kajal.
