JS body for coal-based power plants

A Parliamentary Standing Committee recommended setting up coal-based power plants to reduce dependency on natural gas.
The committee on Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry also suggested importing LNG by 2016 to boost gas supply, according to a news agency.
The recommendations came at the third meeting of the committee held with its chairman Tajul Islam in the Parliament Secretariat Sunday.
The committee suggested raising stock capacity of furnace oil on an urgent basis amid the growing demand of fuel for the sake of the country’s energy security.
The committee members state minister of the ministry Nasrul Hamid, Atiur Rahman Atik, M Abdul Latif, Shibli Sadik and Nasima Ferdousi, Secretary of the ministry and Chairman of Petrobangla were present in the meeting.
The meeting also recommended that the ministry provide information about the number of natural gas consumers, new connections and illegal connections at its next meeting.
