JS body for introducing crop insurance for farmers

The agriculture ministry has been directed to take necessary steps to introduce crop insurance for the farmers so that they could get assistance along with agriculture loans during natural calamities.
The Parliamentary Standing Committee on agriculture ministry gave the directive at a meeting in the city Sunday with committee Chairman Shaukat Momen Shajahan in the chair, reports BSS.
The meeting reviewed the progress of the project taken for purchase of gunny bags and motor engines under Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC).
It also decided that the agriculture ministry and commence ministry would take decision jointly on imports of agriculture produces.
Among others, Agriculture Minister Motia Chowdhury, Khandaker Abdul Baten, Abul Kalam Azad, Abdul Mannan, KM Khalid, Noorjahan Begum and Ahmed Naznin Sultana were present in the meeting.
