JS body for tougher law to check traffic rule violation

The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Home Ministry on Wednesday suggested the government raise the penalty rate for violating traffic rules after amending the law.
The committee came up with the recommendation at its 9th meeting held at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban with its chairman Tipu Munshi in the chair, said a statement from the Parliament Secretariat.
Discussing the traffic situation of Dhaka city at the meeting, the parliamentary watchdog formed a three-member parliamentary subcommittee headed by its member Abu Sayeed Al Mahmood Swapon for recommending ways to ease traffic jam in the capital.
Two other members of the subcommittee are Abul Kalam Azad and Fakhrul Imam. The subcommittee has been asked to place its report within the next three months, a news agency report said.
Committee members Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan, Omor Faruk Chowdhury, Faridul Haque Khan, Abu Sayeed Al Mahmood Swapon, Fakhrul Imam and Kamrun Nahar Chowdhury attended the meeting.
Senior Home Secretary, the Inspector General of Police and the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner were also present.
