JS body on finance to make fiscal proposals

The parliamentary standing committee on finance ministry, for the first time, is going to make a few fiscal proposals for inclusion in the budget for the next (2010-11) fiscal year.
The standing committee members have so far completed discussions with a number of associations, including the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) and the Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BKMEA) at the parliament secretariat before finalising their recommendations.
The committee will hold an extensive discussion on the next budget on April 15 with major chamber leaders and other stakeholders to prepare recommendation which will be submitted to the government later.
Business leaders representing major business bodies like the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry, the Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Foreign Investors' Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Dhaka Stock Exchange, the Chittagong Stock Exchange and the Bangladesh Association of Publicly Listed Companies are expected to attend the pre-budget discussion.
AHM Mostafa Kamal, Chairman, Parliamentary Standing Committee on finance ministry, will preside over the meeting to be held at the parliament secretariat.
Besides, the Ministry of Industries, also for the first time, is set to submit their budgetary recommendations to the MoF soon, sources said. The industry ministry has, in the meanwhile, completed its pre-budget discussion with industrialists and chamber leaders on next budget, it is learnt.
The common demands from major chambers and associations raised so far include budgetary measures to increase power generation, energy efficiency and fiscal supports for local industries.
