JS body orders action against land frauds
FE Report | Thursday, 27 November 2014
A parliamentary body Wednesday recommended necessary changes to the Vested Property Act to remove complexities in the law that deals with such landed property.
The parliamentary standing committee on the land ministry also ordered taking stern action against all land frauds as land-related crimes are on the rise.
"Land-related forgery, trend in forged deeds and the number of land-dispute-related criminal cases are on the rise," the parliamentary panel was apprised.
The recommendations were made at the 6th meeting of the committee at the parliament building, with its chairman Rezaul Karim Hira presiding.
Other committee members, including land minister Shamsur Rahman Sharif, Ekabbar Hossain, Maqbul Hossain, Shamsul Alam Dudu and AKM Maidul Islam, were present.
The committee recommended developing software deeds for all the lands, including vested property, to reduce harassment of people and getting land- related information digitally.
At the meeting the activities of the land appellate board and on vested property were discussed in detail, officials said.
The committee suggested strengthening the 'cluster village' and 'ideal village' programmes.
In another meeting the parliamentary standing committee on the road transport and bridges ministry suggested the relevant ministry to take necessary steps to complete the construction of the Padma Multipurpose Bridge in time.
The recommendation was made as the committee members visited the project site of the bridge.
The field-trip report was presented at the 5th meeting of the panel at the Sangsad Bhaban.
Committee chairman Ekabbar Hossain chaired the meeting. Committee members, including road transport and bridges minister Obaidul Qader, Rezwan Ahmed Taufiq and Nuruzzaman Ahmed, were present.
The meeting was informed about the overall activities regarding the Padma Bridge under five packages.
"The standing committee expressed satisfaction over the progress of the construction work and hoped the work would complete timely," one parliament official said.
