JS body recommends law to check environ pollution

The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Environment and Forests has recommended enacting a law with a provision of penalising the offenders to check environmental pollution by individuals or organisations, reports UNB.
Held at Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban Thursday, the meeting discussed different projects of the Forest Department, taking necessary steps for checking environment pollution by brick kilns, creating employment facilities in social afforestation and government supply process of seeds and saplings in each district and upazila for afforestation.
Recovery of country's rivers from encroachers, strengthening dredging of rivers, good effects of introducing round-shaped shipping system in Dhaka, raising mass awareness for checking environmental pollution and progress of measures taken in the light of investigation report on timber smuggling involving Tk 400 million at Lauachhara in Moulvibazar also came up for discussion.
Committee Chairman Abdul Momin Talukder presided over the meeting.
Committee member State Minister for Environment and Forest Mohammad Hasan Mahmud, Saber Hossain Chowdhury, Mohammad Ekabbar Hossain, Monoranjan Shil Gopal, MA Jabbar, Mohammad Sohrab Ali Sana, Golam Sabur, Gias Uddin Ahmed and Begum Parvin Talukder attended the meeting.
