JS body suggests cancelling licences of contractors

The parliamentary standing committee on the power and energy ministry Thursday suggested cancelling the licences of the contractors involved with illegal gas connections and forming a high-powered task force to disconnect these illegal connections.
It also asked to submit a complete proposal regarding disconnections of illegal gas connections to the prime minister.
The recommendations were made at the 13th meeting of the committee held at the parliament building with committee chairman Tajul Islam in the chair.
The committee suggested quick implementation of various measures taken for exploring new gas-fields in deep sea and offshore.
It also asked to implement the final model PSC-2015 after making necessary amendments to the existing Revised Model PSC-2012 to invite new bidding round in the offshore of the sea area the country achieved in recent times.
Besides, the parliamentary standing committee on the water resources ministry in a meeting recommended that the ministry modernise dredging directorate, purchase new dredging machines and take necessary steps to implement the ongoing dredging projects of water development board as soon as possible.   
It also suggested increasing the facilities for flood control and pumping out of water in the project area of upstream Surma-Kushiara after rapid completion of the project.
The recommendations were made at the 12th meeting of the committee held at the parliament building with committee chairman Ramesh Chandra Sen in the chair.
