JS body to sit with upazila chairmen

Parliamentary Standing Committee on LGRD Ministry will sit with the representatives of Upazila chairmen and Upazila vice-chairmen to elaborately discuss on amendments to the Upazila Parishad Bill 2010.
The parliamentary standing committee at its meeting Thursday decided to invite six upazila chairmen, three male vice chairmen and three female vice-chairmen in its next meeting to take their opinions before finalising the committee's report on the Upazila Parishad (Amendment) Bill 2010, meeting sources told UNB.
Six Union Parishad chairmen will also be invited to the meeting.
Upazila chairmen and vice-chairmen had submitted application to the chairman of the parliamentary standing committee seeking opportunity to attend the committee's meeting so that their opinions are included in the Upazila Parishad Bill.
Upazila Parishad (Amendment) Bill 2010 was placed in parliament on December 6 last year for bringing further amendments to the Upazila Parishad Act 1998.
The day's meeting presided over by the standing committee chairman Adv M Rahmat Ali, the committee
members include LGRD Minister Syed Ashraful Islam, Noor-e-Alam Chowdhury, Abul Khaier Bhuiyan, AKM Mustafizur Rahman and Mostafa Jalal Mohiuddin attended.
