JS goes into budget session today

FE REPORT | Sunday, 5 June 2022

The budget session of the Jatiya Sangsad (National Parliament) for the fiscal year 2022-23 will begin today (Sunday).
The session, the 18th of the 11th JS, will begin at 5:00pm.
Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal will place his fourth budget for the fiscal year 2022-23 on June 09 (Thursday), sources at the parliament secretariat said.
It is expected that the budget session this time will look like the ones in the pre-pandemic period, as such sessions during the previous two years were shortened owing to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The tenure of the session will, however, be determined in a meeting of the JS's business advisory committee to be held today (Sunday), with Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury in the chair. But some hinted that the session might continue up to July 05 next.
The admission of parliament officials and staff will be relatively unrestricted. Media personnel will be allowed to enter the premises to collect budget documents in person this year, though they were not allowed in the past two years.
Earlier, on May 18, President Md Abdul Hamid convened the session of the 11th parliament exercising the power bestowed upon him as per the Clause (1) of Article 72 of the Constitution.
On May 17, the National Economic Council (NEC) approved a Tk 2.46 trillion Annual Development Programme (ADP) for FY23 giving highest allocation to the transport and communication sector.
